Scientific Name: Pink Clinozoisite, Rich Pseudomorphus after plagioclase AKA Marshmellow WA                                                                                                                     

This specimen comes from about 75km NW of Cue is a small quarry in porphyritic dolerite used for an ornamental stone. It contains pink clinozoisite-rich pseudomorphs after plagioclase megacrysts, 20-40mm in diameter.

The deposit is part of a steep dipping, north-east trending dyke, 500 meters long and variable thickness from 5 to 25 meters. It was mined from 1999 to 2004 by D. Caesar, from several small pits at the northeast end of the dyke. Some specimens have been seen, including slabs, spheres, and carvings from this period.

On the surface the dolerite is grey with a reddish-brown oxidized coating, containing numerous golf ball-shaped megacrysts of pale pink clinozoisite, considerably harder than the surrounding matrix. There are zones where the megacrysts are more irregular and smaller.

The material has also been given names like Spotted Cat Rock and Native Cat Rock or marshmallow rock.
